1872-1877
Governor Sir William Gregory did lot for public without considering any differences. He separated North central Province and developed Anuradhapura, He helped to Naranvita Sumansara Thera rehabilitate Ruwanweli maha Seya. He build Colombo national museum.

Brahmachri Walisinha Harischandra did lot of work to protect Anuradhapura.
Ven Dahmmaloka Sthavira started Vidyodaya Pirivena.
Ven Mohotte Watte Gunananda Sthavira debeted with Catholic Leaders and won at the famous panadura vadaya. A religious and language waking up was taking place in Ceylon.

On the invitation of Governor Gregory, Mahawanshaya was translated to Sinhala by Sri Sumangala Maha sthavira and Batuwantudawe Devarakshitha panditha.

Queens Elder son prince of Wales came to Ceylon and New Colombo Harbour was initiated.

During the period of Governor Gregory a intellectual and Dharmasasthra awakening was taking place. Vidyodaya Pirivena was started by Sri Sumangala Thera and Vidyalankara Pirivena was started by Dhammaloka Thera. A development of Sinahla langauage and Literature after 300 years started to taking place.

1877 – 1883
Governor Robert London repaired Tisawewa. The coffee decease came and destroyed many coffee plantations. Colonel Henry Steel Allcot read the Pandora Vadaya and Started Parama Vingnanartha Buddha Sangamaya with Madam Blowsy.

The population count was 2759738.
Srimath Anagarika Dharmapala build Dharmarajitha and Moolagantikoota Vihara in Culcatta, India. Mahabodhi Samagama and Sinhala Baudhya newspaper was started.

1883 – 1890
A clash occurred on 1883 Easter Sunday at Kotahena between Catholic and Buddhists. The British did nothing against Catholic who was the guilty party. Instead they insulted the Sinhala Buddhists.
Sir Arthor Hamilton governed. It became a poor economy for public. Vihara Devalagam Law was introduced. Wesak, Hindu, Hajji days were made public holidays. A seat was made available in the Wyawasthadayaka for Udarata Sinhalese. Nuwara wewa. And Yoda Ela was repaired. Labugama tank was made to provide water to Colombo.

Sabaragamuwa Province was made and Ratnapura was made it’s capital.
Uva Province was separated and Badulla was made provincial capital.

1890-1895
Governor Sir Author Ellibank Havelock started Technical Collage, Maradana. Ananda Collage was started by Praram Vingnanartha Bauddha Samagama. Victorya Bridge and Havelock Hospital was build.

1895 – 1903
Governor West Ridgeway Started Kelvin weli and Jaffna rail road, Electric Tram service was started in Colombo.
Queen Victoria died and her Edvered VII became the King. YMBA was started.

1903 – 1907
Governor Sir henry Author Blake, During this time King of Siam came to worship Temple of Tooth.

1907-1913
Governor Henry Maclum, A riot occurred after a clash took place while Gampola Walahagoda Esala Perahara traveling by a muslim mosque. The public riot took place on a changing of the verdict given by Justice Paul E Peris.

King Edvered died and Prince Gorge V became the King.

1913 – 1916
Robert Charmerce was a language expert. He Published 550 Jathaka Katha to English.

World War started.
Charmer Grain store was build to collect and send rice to the war. Money and Rice was sent for the World War.

An Island wide clash took place among Muslims and Singhalese that started in Kandy on Wesak Poya Day. Martial law was declared. Many Sinhala Leaders were taken to custody.

Ponnablem Ramanathan spoke on behalf of the Singhalese in parliament and went to England for further briefing. Charmerce was called back and George Anderson was appointed as the Governor of Lanka.
